A Time Zone Too Far

greetings!

i am sitting in my parents’ sun room in southeastern ohio on a glorious spring saturday afternoon. i guess i’d forgotten how amazing spring in ohio is - especially after a long grey midwestern winter. we went for a walk in the woods today and saw all kinds of wild flowers in bloom - trout lilies, dutchman’s breeches, white trillium, violets, spring beauties, bluebells, phlox….
sorry. i got carried away with the flower listing. oh…..and the trees! dogwoods, red buds, crab apples, some kind of stinky white ones and then some. it’s fantastic!

 anyway -
if this newsletter turns out to be a bit loopier than previous ones (yes, it’s possible) i’m blaming it on jet lag. i may have crossed one too many time zones. where i sit now, it is sat. the 17th at 6:24 p.m. but, my computer says it is 5:24 because it is set on nashville time. according to my watch it is 11:25 p.m. although i arrived back in the states on weds. i haven’t changed it from london time yet. in australia - here’s where it gets crazy - it is 8:27 a.m. sunday the 18th. i know that because i have just returned from 7 weeks in australia by way of london. that’s my disclaimer.

now -
australia! what a fantastic time i had. i met so many great people, saw some of the strangest animals and birds , played the port fairy folk festival and the blue mtn folk festival, found a fantastic new record shop in melbourne - basement discs
(i have to change lines now otherwise the type stays blue for some reason. i’m not as clever with this link business as i think i am, apparently), swam in the sea at avoca beach, drank gallons of the best coffee in the world (truly- australians have the coffee thing down), watched the flying foxes (fruit bats) at dusk from my 6th floor hotel room fly over sydney, drank some very nice wine and enjoyed some fatastic (i just noticed this typo but, i kind of like “fatastic” - i’m letting it stand) food at a winery where i performed on an afternoon, played one of my most favorite shows ever at a house concert in st. kilda, wrote some new songs with my friends, wandered around the markets in melbourne, found out it’s 11 hrs by train between melbourne and sydney and you can’t really sleep in a sleeper car, and managed to escape most of the winter weather.  welcome to all the new friends i made in australia and i’ll be seeing the rest of you hopefully this year sometime when the new record comes out. stay tuned for new record (coming soon!) info and tour dates.
happy spring!

bye
